How long does it take to make a [fill in the blank]?
There are many variables that effect how long it takes to complete a project. Size, yarn type and weight/thickness, complexity of the stitches involved, how many mistakes we make in the process of completing it. We also have full time jobs that cut into our knitting time. Some projects can take us just a couple of days while others may take a few weeks to finish.
Do you use a knitting machine?
No. Every single item we make is hand knit. We do not use a machine, simply our hands and knitting needles.
Can we make a project in adult sizes?
We have chosen not to make adult sweaters at this time. Children's clothing is more forgiving than adult clothing. As an adult we have specific expectations of how our clothing will fit and that makes it challenging to hand knit for others.
How do we choose our yarn?
We choose our yarn based on feel. If it isn't soft and something that we would consider wearing ourselves, we won't use it.
Why do we use acrylic for the children's wear?
We have decided to use acrylic for our children's clothes because it is parent-friendly. It can be machine washed and dried, although we do recommend using a low heat to prolong the life of the fabric. It also wears well, with many of our past projects having lasted through several seasons with one child before being passed on to another. Acrylic yarn has also improved a great deal over the years and that stiff, scratchy feeling that you may remember from a childhood sweater is gone.
Will we use natural fibers for the children's wear?
Yes, we are willing to use natural fibers such as cotton and wool for children's wear. Natural fibers do cost more than acrylic yarn and that would be reflected in our pricing.
What makes the scarves and shawls special?
In making scarves and shawls, we get to play with more luxurious fibers. Much of this yarn is purchased on a whim, sometimes while vacationing. We like to support independent yarn dyers and local yarn stores when we can and, as such, cannot guarantee that we will be able to find the same colour a second time. This makes our scarves and shawls truly one of a kind.
Do we make custom items?
Yes, if you are wanting something specific, simply send us a message. If you have photos, you can send those as well. We will do our best to work with you to make the item that you are imagining. We are sometimes limited by pattern availability but aim to match your idea as closely as possible. We aim to complete custom orders within 6-8 weeks. We also require a 50% deposit for custom orders.
