About Us

We grew up on a farm in the Peace Country of northern Alberta and it is an area that we still call home.  Our oldest sister taught us to knit while we were very young.  Some of our earliest pieces can still be found at our parents' house: scarves in the closet, oddly shaped doll blankets in the toy box.  While we didn't forget the skill, we didn't move beyond the very basic ones needed to make a dishcloth until 2010 when many friends began having babies.  The rediscovery of knitting at that point was from a desire to make something special.  Basic skills allowed for a couple of baby blankets to be made and given but those blankets ignited a newfound love of the craft.  This led to attempts at our first baby sweaters and hats.  Those first few projects didn't often turn out as well as we had hoped but we continued to learn more about the craft, honing our techniques and our understanding of the process.  It didn't take long before we had provided clothing for all the new babies in our lives but the passion for knitting continued to grow.  In 2016 we sold our first items to coworkers and a year later J Squared was born.  Selling allows us to continue with a craft that we love.  Those who know us know that our knitting goes everywhere with us.  In the car, after family meals, movie nights, coffee break at work, even on trips overseas.  We often have multiple projects on the go and the next several dreamed up or planned out before we're halfway through the current project.
